some of our regular night time routine reads as of late!
1. The Lady with the Alligator Purse, by Nadine Bernard Westcott. We got this book when Max was a newborn. I've read it to him so many times since then as I especially love the naturally rhythm of the words (kind of like the Gruffalo). Apparently it's supposed to be a song, but for the life of me I can't figure out a singing beat to it, i find that just reading makes your words dance as it is. At age 3, he's finally interested in the story as well as paying attention to the illustrations. As a nurse, I also like that the "not all bugs need drugs" concept is portrayed in the story (ok i'm a nerd) hehe
2. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, by Laura Numeroff. We recently got this book as a gift from our friend Helen. The first time I read it, i was really tired and I was annoyed at this mouse. The next night, slightly more perky, the book was actually pretty funny. I loved that I can translate the simple words into Tagalog for the bilingual feel. I also liked that the illustrations had varying emotions and gave mood to the story!
The Tale of Three Trees, retold by Angela Elwell Hunt. We got this as a gift a couple of years ago and I for one still love reading it to this day. I wouldn't say the illustrations are bold and bright like the books above, but it is such a beautiful tale. I think this would be a great book not just for kids, but for adults as well. Truly beautiful.
Our little library is getting pretty full but i'm always on the hunt for a great story!
