Moving Along the Grocery Aisle! (Papaya week 22)

 BabyFruit Ticker

Hmmmmm what happened this week?
  • BP 98/60
  • weight gain 8 lbs (in 4 weeks) OUCH! (the midwife said, "i'm not going to criticize your diet, but I recommend you eat lower fat foods and low sugar foods." um ok. I think this weight gain is somewhat alright...I don't exactly feel HUGE, so it hasn't freaked me out. I think since getting pregnant, i've gained approx 10-12lbs. ennnhh..)
  • baby HR approx 158bpm
  • fundus measuring 22.5 cm in length (i think this is the measurement)
  • baby's position is most likely head down right now as the midwife was able to find the heart beat on the lower right quadrant of my abdomen
  • all bloodwork normal, all urine normal
  • next midwife appt Oct 26
  • STUPID ASS ultrasound dept. hasn't even sent a pre-liminary report of my Aug 29th detailed ultrasound to the midwife! WTF!! So, I basically didn't get any major updates except for the quintessential phrase "no news, is good news." And the midwife assured me that if there was something wrong, they would've notified them by now.  SO, I got the midwife to give me a call when the ultrasound people do give the damn report which is hopefully soon. I also told asked her if I can have another ultrasound I think 3 times, not sure if it registered, but in the end, she ended up offering me a "growth ultrasound" and that the midwife people will email me with the place and date. THANKS! Or rather, i'll say thanks when I get that email! I specifically stated I did not want to return to that particular ultrasound dept., ARGH!
  • i've had a SUPER ANNOYING cough since last friday. Well last fri, I had a sore-ish throat, which turned into a cough but no dripping nose or feelings of congestion and illness.  This cough has really caused me to sleep so damn poorly at night, I literally need to be reclined in a 45 degree angle or so to sleep and if I turn to either of my sides, the coughing spell starts. WEIRD and UNPLEASANT! Can't even take anything for it like the cough drops or Buckley's or whatever else I used to take for this annual cough. UGH!
  • the baby has been moving a lot (by a lot from "I don't feel anything" to movement). It feels like muffled thuds to me- can be felt on the left side, upper mid abdomen, not too much on the right, and I definitely can feel it in my mid lower abdomen. Baby is moving! Not sure how else to describe it ..hmmmm...MUFFLED THUDS! ok well, in the lower abdomen part, it feels like the times I was about to have my period and you can feel all that blood and sheit curling/dislodging/curdling inside you just prior to having a heavy heavy period. Can any one relate to this feeling? Sometimes, it also feels like someone is lightly tracing something inside my abdominal wall- maybe that's what people describe as the "baby is swimming" feeling? hmmm!
  • I have to void ALL THE TIME! and it's a full bladder to empty every single time! Ok, so I do drink a lot of water in general, but I never really felt that I needed do go as much and as urgently as these last few weeks (thanks baby on bladder!)  Also, thanks to this cough, if I have a somewhat full bladder and a strong cough or major coughing spell...there's a little pee leakage! WTF!! Not sure how many kegels I have to do in my life to prevent this from happening! haha ..again, it's only when my bladder is somewhat full...i'm not that worried about it YET
  • my bowels have been A-W-E-S-O-M-E! haha
  • no new stretch marks, no linea nigra
  • my coworker brought some Spicy Cheetos from America last week...I ate it ...and boy did I pay for it! UGH! Just like the Ruffles Spicy Ketchup, this chips flavor absolutely did not agree with baby and I. I had heart burn for 2 days (same as Ruffles), I was hiccupping acid, I was burping acid, and exhaling acid was b-a-d! I wonder whats up with these two chips that don't work for me? Honestly, they taste the same too ...probably same chemicals. Pre-pregnancy, I ate these Spicy Cheetos without ANY problem. Oh well, so many chips out there anyways, easy to give up this one.  Note to self, do not buy this!

  • Last Saturday, my parent's took me to BABY'S WORLD, I can't really say which store I love best (tjskids vs babysworld vs. BRU vs crocodile), but tjskids definitely has the best prices. They each have their own things that the other doesn't sell.  Anyways, I bought a discontinued color/material Bugaboo tailored fabric set in green and fleece.  BONUS! It was reg. $130 and I got it for $50.  Well in truth, I was prepared for a canvas tailored fabric set and requested to see one in all the blue variations they had as well as the greens (and possibly even purple).  She came out with a light blue (love), navy blue (like), and this royal green (love), and there we go- it came down to which was the cheapest best. With Sarah's existing colors, our stroller will look like this! I think it'll transcend through various child genders, don't you?
  •  I found someone on ebay listing a Mally Bib, and seriously, I love it when you find something that you want, that is ending soon, for a nice price! So I won this cute red Mally Bib from ebay for $11 (ok $18 after you include shipping and currency exchange).  Still beats the $34 + tax store price tag! I had the option of bidding on a monkey, a brown bib with 2 cute carrots, and a blue bib with a whale on it blowing out water.  Gene liked this one, I wanted the carrots or all of them! haha ok..a little excessive I know. But yes, I won this one.

  • So i've been thinking about how to keep the kid warm during the winter months especially as i'll be walking around with probably the carseat attached to the stroller frame.  Offline and online friends recommended either some sort of snowsuit or something like a sleeping bag thing for the carseat. I chose the something for the car seat- I found this super deal off of Vancouver Craigslist! It's a JJ Cole Urban Bundle Me in the colore "ice."  Retails for $70, scored it for $15 and they lived 5 mins. away from me, and it was in excellent condition! Ssweeeeeettt!!

  • now this is one thing I bought at regular price- the IKEA Gulliver crib.  As "cheap" as I am, I didn't buy this because of the price.  It actually has received a lot of top reviews, it's basic, it's clean, can support up to 50lbs, no drop down side, and well, I don't need one of those transition cribs as I already have a twin bed in the spare room.  I initially wanted the birch color, but couldn't find it in the warehouse...i'll say the white one was meant to be!  Now I just need a non-ikea white dresser to match (why, hello Craigslist!).
  •  Last but not least, my parents bought a car, and thus gave us their 2003 Toyota Corolla with only 63K on it. yep, you read that right GAVE us a car! LOL! Not that I ever plan to learn to drive, but this really sets us up for a different family path in life!  Thank you lovely loving parents!

What does I am pregnant say?

Your baby's crown-to-rump length is approximately 7.6 inches and your growing baby weighs about 12.25 ounces now! Your uterus is about 2 cm above your bellybutton and you probably feel comfortably pregnant. Your growing tummy is not yet large enough to get in the way and you should still be able to bend over and sit without much trouble. You might be enjoying your pregnancy more than ever at this point if morning sickness was an issue in the early weeks.

Your baby's body continues to grow and develop every day. The organ systems in your baby's body are becoming specialized for their particular functions. The fetal liver produces different enzymes than it will produce after delivery. The liver is responsible for breaking down billirubin, which is produced by the breaking down of blood cells. Because the life span of a fetal red blood cell is shorter than that of an adult, a fetus produces more billirubin than adults do. Billirubin passes from fetal blood to the placenta and then into your blood. Your liver helps get rid of fetal billirubin. A newborn baby that has high levels of billirubin may show signs of jaundice. Jaundiced babies have a yellowish tint to their eyes and skin and are often treated with phototherapy.

Your baby's senses are developing daily. The fetus now has a full complement of neurons in the brain and is learning about her body and surroundings through touch. Touch is one of the first senses to mature and your baby may stroke its face or feel her arms and legs. Your blood volume has increased more to meet the demands of your pregnancy. Most of the increase is in the form of plasma, the liquid part of your blood. This has the ability to dilute your blood and give you physiological anemia, which occurs during pregnancy. The measure of blood dilution is called Hematocrit and the levels reach their lowest points this week. You should check with your doctor to make sure you are not developing more serious forms of anemia.

Your baby now shows an extremely rapid brain growth (which lasts until five years after birth).  The ovaries of female fetuses contain primitive egg cells, all of the eggs a woman will have for her entire life. The uterus of female fetuses is also fully formed.

How is my life changing according to babycenter?

How your life's changing:

At this point, you may find your belly becoming a hand magnet. It's perfectly okay to tell folks who touch your tummy that you'd rather they didn't. And if people are telling you that you look smaller or bigger than you should at this point, remember that each woman grows — and shows — at her own rate. What's important is that you see your practitioner for regular visits so she can make sure your baby's growth is on track.
You may start to notice stretch marks on your abdomen as it expands to accommodate your growing baby. At least half of all pregnant women will develop stretch marks by the time they give birth. These small streaks of differently textured skin can range from pink to dark brown (depending on your skin color). Although they most commonly appear on your tummy, stretch marks may also show up on your buttocks, thighs, hips, and breasts. There's no proof that lotion helps prevent stretch marks, but keeping your skin moisturized may help with any itching.

Surprising Facts: Body changes beyond your belly

I have highlighted the ones that are happening to me!

You expected your belly to grow — and perhaps your breasts, too — but the following physical changes may take you by surprise. As with many pregnancy changes, hormones play a role in most of these alterations in your looks.
  • Thicker, more lustrous hair You're not actually growing more hair, just losing less than normal. During pregnancy, your body sheds hair much more slowly than it did before. What to do: If thicker hair is a boon for you, enjoy it. If it's making your mane more unruly than ever, ask your stylist to do some thinning at your next cut. These changes won't last forever. After your baby's born, you'll start to lose this excess hair, sometimes in clumps.
  • Increased body hair Sex hormones known as androgens can cause new hair to sprout on your chin, upper lip, jaw, and cheeks. Stray hairs can also pop up on your belly, arms, legs, and back. What to do: Tweezing, waxing, and shaving are all safe ways to manage these temporary changes.
  • Faster-growing fingernails Your fingernails may grow more quickly than usual, and you may notice changes in texture. Some women's nails get harder, while others' get softer or more brittle. What to do: Protect your nails by wearing rubber gloves when you're cleaning, and using moisturizer on them if they're brittle.
  • Skin changes Some pregnant women report that their skin has never looked better. If that's you, enjoy the proverbial "glow." Others find the hormones of pregnancy aggravate skin conditions such as acne. What to do: Wash twice a day with a gentle soap or cleanser, and make sure that any moisturizer or makeup you use is oil-free.
  • Stretch marks As your belly expands to accommodate your growing baby, you may get tiny tears in the supportive tissue that lies just beneath your skin, resulting in striations of varying color. These marks will begin to fade and become considerably less noticeable about six to 12 months after you give birth. There's not much you can do besides trying not to gain more than the recommended amount of weight. Heredity is responsible for the natural elasticity of your skin and plays a role in determining who will end up with stretch marks.
  • Skin discolorations Increased melanin can cause splotchy patches of darkened skin on your face. These pigment changes may become intensified if you spend time in the sun. What to do: Protect your face by using a sunblock that offers both UVA and UVB protection with an SPF of 30 or higher, wearing a hat with a brim, and avoiding the sun during peak hours of the day (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
  • Larger and darker nipples and areolas You may find that your nipples and the pigmented area around them (the areolas) are getting bigger and darker. The little bumps on your areolas, known as Montgomery's tubercles, may also be more pronounced. These bumps are oil-producing glands that help fight off bacteria and lubricate the skin. Some women also notice more pronounced veins in their breasts. What to do: Nothing!
  • Larger feet Your feet may go up half a shoe size or more. Lax ligaments may make your feet spread a bit — permanently. Swelling can make your shoes feel tight as well, although it will go away after delivery. What to do: Buy comfortable shoes to accommodate your growing feet.
