Yam Tempura Roll Week (18)!!

Yay it's sweet potato week (I personally like to call it a Yam)!  I will celebrate this week with a sweet order of yam tempura roll(s) from Kadoya!!

What's happened this week?
  • I went to a baby shower last Sat when it was SUPER frickin hot. I'm quite glad that most of the summer wasn't as hot as it was last Sat as I wasn't feeling too great! Heat makes me sleepy, and when it's hot, i'm sleepy and ready for a nap at any given moment- someone just hand me a pillow already! When i'm sleepy, i'm also less energetic so I wonder if anyone noticed how low energy and mildly irritable I was last Sat? Oops!
  • also, I found i've been having some split second lightheadedness spells quite often this week. Don't know why, but I noticed it just happens randomly like if I turn my head to fast or that it just happens when i'm on the computer at work. common denominator...maybe I should start checking my blood pressure (yes, nurse)
  • i'm winning the constipation battle this week! It's gone from poor to moderate satisfaction! LOL! Ive attributed this to an apple a day, ditching all bran buds cereal, and instead replacing with All Bran Bars

  • my baby bump popped out this week, so i've been embracing the maternity clothes at work and in life. I still think it's in the "I don't want to ask her if she's pregnant in case she's just gaining weight" phase, but the bump is definitely there. Someone found out at work today and the response was, "I thought something was off with the way you were looking." LOL!
  • i'm back to my 12 hour shift work as of Sept 26th...I have goals to get back into fitness as i'm sure that's contributing to my 1) constipation 2) cracking/clicking joints and 3) just general lack of motivation to go for a walk and do some activities...goals!
  • in general, i'm still considering myself as symptom free and thus super lazy to do any baby research.  Maybe when I find out the gender on Monday my interests will be renewed
  • had my first bout of incontinence this week! UGH!!! I was at the beach, had a big sneeze, and a little bit of pee came out into my bathing suit! How freaking embarassing!! I thought at first it was blood but then I went to the porter-potties and it was clear!  Damn! I'm doing Kegels now!
  • i've been sleeping AWESOME this week...and just by typing this out, I bet you I have just jinxed myself in the sleep department! Had some more crazy vivid dreams but nothing too sexy so I don't really recall them! Plus, I haven't been waking up much in the middle of the night to void, so again, another reason I don't remember my dreams. 
Snapshot of last nights dream:
I was in a concrete building that resembled something like work or highschool. I was on some floor and I saw George Clooney who I found super attractive in the dream (but HELL NO in real life).  He told me to go to the 7th floor, and I was super interested because I thought it would lead to a longer time spent with him.  I was with some tall-ish caucasian guy who I don't know, I don't remember what he looks like, but do remember me feeling that he was kind of good looking. Anyways, he was going to the 7th floor as well.  We took the stairwell which was all painted white, and it looked similar to work stairwell. We thought we reached the 7th floor after a few flights, and opening the entrance wasn't, it was grey and boring, and I possibly remember a 3rd floor sign somewhere.  Of course we were flabergasted, and because of the possibilities that await, we kept going in search of the 7th floor.  Again we kept opening doors after so many flights of stairs but it just never became the 7th floor!  Then on a final flight, I had a feeling that these up coming steps were the right stairs- and it was.  I opened the door to have a bunch of people sitting in a poker like table (no card games were being played) and they looked at us as we entered but didn't say anything.  When I saw them I remember feeling/thinking "oh these are where the beautiful people are." Then we walked into a bunch of rooms in anticipation of something awaiting us that was super awesome and possibly something that resulted in a glorious sexual experience (LOL!) but, then...I woke up.

  • sleeping through the night without needing to void, but during the day, I need to go to the bathroom almost every 1.5 hours (not as fun as it sounds)
  • not that i'm worried about it, but I haven't felt any movement yet! Booooooo!

By week 18 of your pregnancy, your baby's crown-to-rump length is 5 to 5.5 inches long. Your baby continues to develop fat layers and weighs about 5.25 ounces. Your baby will continue to grow and develop, but the rapid growth will slow down for a little while. You will be able to feel your uterus just below your bellybutton. If you put your fingers sideways to measure, you can feel your uterus about two finger-widths below your bellybutton. At this point of your pregnancy, your uterus is approximately the size of a cantaloupe. Although weight gain varies from woman to woman, your total weight gain at this point should be 10 to 13 pounds.

At this time if you had an ultrasound, heart abnormalities can be detected. If the ultrasound technician detects abnormalities, further ultrasound exams may be ordered to follow the baby's development. There is still space available in your uterus and your baby will be active for periods at a time. Your baby may sit cross legged or turn somersaults.

Around this time, your baby becomes more sensitive to the outside world and shows her presence through powerful kicks and prods. The bones through which sound is passed to the inner ear have hardened and the parts of the brain that receives and processes nerve signals from the ears are developing. This means that your baby can hear now. Your baby will get used to familiar sounds, such as your heart beating, familiar voices, blood rushing through the umbilical cord and other daily routine sounds. Your baby will become startled if he hears a loud sound.

How your life's changing according to BabyCenter:

Hungry? An increase in appetite is pretty common about now. Make it count by choosing meals and snacks that are rich in nutrients instead of empty calories (chips, French fries, candy, and other sweets). Bigger, more comfortable clothes are a must now as your appetite and waistline grow.
Your cardiovascular system is undergoing dramatic changes, and during this trimester your blood pressure will probably be lower than usual. Don't spring up too fast from a lying or sitting position or you might feel a little dizzy.
From now on, when you do lie down, it's best to lie on your side — or at least partly tilted to one side. (When you lie flat on your back, your uterus can compress a major vein, leading to decreased blood return to your heart.) Try placing a pillow behind you or under your hip or upper leg for comfort.
If you haven't already had a second-trimester ultrasound, you'll probably have one soon. This painless procedure helps your practitioner check how your baby's growing, screen for certain birth defects, check the placenta and umbilical cord, determine whether the due date you're working with is accurate, and see how many babies you're carrying. During the exam, you might see your baby moving around or sucking his thumb. Bring your partner along, and be sure to ask for a printout for your baby's first photo album!
